I am very privileged to have grown up and still reside in a small seaside town in Cornwall called Looe
Which amazingly has it's own Island just off the mainland generally known as Looe Island and officially called St George's Island
Previously privately owned by the Atkins sisters of which one was my school needlework teacher, the sisters wrote a book about the island titled We bought an island followed by a sequel Tales From Our Cornish Island
The Island is a rare offshore haven for many species of wildlife including birds and its own seal colony
It was bequeathed by the sisters to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to keep it and the wildlife that use it protected
In the calmer months you can book seats on a small ferry boat which also delivers supplies to the Island and experience its unique beauty for yourself
